Breaking News

I’ve been quoted thousands of times as an expert on the radical right in the mass media, including citations in almost every national newspaper, news magazine and television news show in America, as well as in leading European media venues like Der Spiegel and the BBC. It’s not possible to list all those citations here. What follows is intended only to give a sense of my work with the media.
The New York Times: Quoted by name in at least 93 articles (1997-2018) on right-wing extremism and related subjects, including interviews with columnists Bob Herbert, Frank Rich, Nicholas Kristof and Charles M. Blow; in two “Quotations of the Day” (July 7, 1999, and Aug. 7, 2012); and in a Q&A interview (“White Supremacy: From the Ground Up”) with the Week in Review (March 6, 2005). I co-authored “The Future of American Terrorism,” Opinion Page (June 10, 2001), and “The Geography of Hate” (op-chart and text on noose incidents), Opinion Page (Nov. 25, 2007); wrote four bylined “Room for Debate” short pieces for the Opinion Page (July 27, 2011; Aug. 12, 2012; Aug. 8, 2013; and Nov. 20, 2013); and was featured in two Times “Retro Report” documentaries, one on the 1992 Randy Weaver siege in Ruby Ridge, Idaho (2014), and the other on the 1993 Branch Davidian standoff near Waco, Texas (2015).

National Public Radio: At least 75 appearances (1999-2018) on national NPR shows including “All Things Considered,” “Morning Edition,” “Tell Me More,” “News and Notes,” “Weekend Edition Saturday,” “Weekend Edition Sunday,” “On Point with Tom Ashbrook,” “Day to Day,” “On the Media,” “Latino USA,” “Talk of the Nation,” “The Two-Way,” “The Tavis Smiley Show,” “Blog of the Nation,” "Code Switch," “The Bryant Park Project” and several others. On March 25, 2010, Terry Gross did a 43-minute interview with me on “Fresh Air.” I’ve also done a very large number of interviews with local NPR stations around the country.
